Position Highlights
The Open-Source Database Administrator will be responsible for supporting, maintaining, and optimizing open-source database platforms for customers across cloud and on-prem environments. The role focuses on ensuring high availability, performance, security, observability, and operational excellence for MySQL, PostgreSQL, and MongoDB workloads. The DBA must be experienced in monitoring and metric-driven operations and work closely with Development and DevOps teams to ensure databases are reliable endpoints in application lifecycles.
Main responsibilities:
- Database Administration (MySQL, PostgreSQL, MongoDB)
Perform L2/L3 support for production and non-production open-source database platforms.
Install, configure, upgrade, and patch MySQL, PostgreSQL, and MongoDB clusters.
Manage replication, clustering, HA, and failover architectures (e.g., MySQL Replication, Group Replication, PostgreSQL Streaming Replication, MongoDB Replica Sets).
Handle performance tuning, query optimization, and indexing strategies.
Perform capacity planning, storage optimization, and scaling analysis.
Troubleshoot database errors, performance issues, or incidents to minimize downtime. - Monitoring, Metrics & Observability
Design and implement advanced monitoring for open-source databases using: Prometheus / Grafana; CloudWatch / Azure Monitor; ELK / OpenSearch
Build and maintain dashboards for health, performance, latency, and replication status.
Configure alerting rules, SLOs, and performance indicators for proactive issue detection.
Automate log analysis and anomaly detection.
Collaboration With Development & DevOps Teams - Work with Dev and DevOps engineers to ensure DB endpoints meet application and microservice requirements.
Support database integration into CI/CD pipelines.
Review schema designs, SQL queries, and application-level data flows. - Cloud & Platform Experience
At least one major cloud required (AWS or Azure)
Provisioning and maintaining DB instances on AWS RDS, Aurora, Azure Database services, or IaaS deployments.
Implementing backup/restore strategies using cloud-native tools.
Understanding networking, IAM roles, security groups, firewalls, and data encryption in cloud environments. - Automation & Scripting
Develop automation for DB maintenance tasks using:Bash/Python/Ansible / Terraform
Create automated backup, recovery, and DR workflows.
Build self-service operational scripts for common DBA tasks.
Security & Compliance
Implement role-based access, auditing, and encryption at rest/in transit.
Main requirements:
- Min 5+ years experience as an Open-Source DBA.
- Strong hands-on experience with MySQL, PostgreSQL, and MongoDB
- Experience in HA, replication, and performance optimization.
- Experience with database monitoring and metrics tooling.
- Experience supporting databases as endpoints for Dev / DevOps environments.
- Designing and managing monitoring stacks:Prometheus, Grafana; ELK / OpenSearch;CloudWatch / Azure Monitor
- Expertise in at least one major cloud: AWS or Azure
- Scripting with Python & Bash
- Automation using Ansible, Terraform
- Supporting databases in CI/CD pipeline
- Kubernetes experience: StatefulSets, Operators, Storage Classes
- Strong problem-solving, incident management, and analytical skills.
- Bachelor degree in Computer science or similar
- AWS certification is preferred.
